"Story hours" का हिंदी अनुवाद कहानी सुनाने का समय या कहानी का समय होगा। इसका मतलब एक ऐसा समय होता है जब किसी को कहानी सुनाई जाती है या जब लोग कहानी सुनाने और सुनने के लिए इकट्ठा होते हैं। आप इसे सरल भाषा में "कहानी सुनाना" या "कहानी का सत्र" भी कह सकते हैं।

कहानी 1: ईमानदार लकड़हारा

एक ईमानदार लकड़हारे की कहानी में, लकड़हारा नदी के किनारे लकड़ी काटते समय अपनी कुल्हाड़ी खो देता है। नदी में से एक देवी/परी निकलती है और उसकी कुल्हाड़ी वापस करने का वादा करती है। सबसे पहले वह सोने की कुल्हाड़ी दिखाती है, लेकिन लकड़हारा कहता है कि यह उसकी नहीं है। फिर वह चांदी की कुल्हाड़ी दिखाती है, जिसे भी वह अस्वीकार कर देता है। जब देवी उसे उसकी अपनी लोहे की कुल्हाड़ी देती है, तो लकड़हारा खुश होकर उसे ले लेता है। उसकी ईमानदारी से खुश होकर, देवी उसे तीनों कुल्हाड़ियां उपहार के रूप में देती है।

 

Story 1: The Honest Woodcutter

Once upon a time a poor woodcutter lived in a small village. Though he was very poor he was always an honest and God-fearing person. On a very hot day, he took his axe and went inside the nearby forest in search of wood. After searching for a long time, he found one good tree near a river inside the forest. As the woodcutter was cutting the woods, his axe slipped from his hands and fell inside the river. The river was very deep, so he couldn't get it back. The woodcutter sat down on the bank and began to cry. Suddenly, a water spirit appeared before him and asked, "Why are you crying?" The woodcutter explained his situation. The spirit dived into the river and came back with a golden axe. "Is this your axe?" it asked. "No," said the woodcutter. The spirit then dived again and returned with a silver axe. "Is this your axe?" it asked. The woodcutter again replied, "No." On the third dive, the spirit came back with his iron axe. The woodcutter was overjoyed and shouted, "This is my axe!" The spirit was so pleased with the woodcutter's honesty that it gave him the golden, silver, and his iron axe. The woodcutter went home happy and was able to live a better life. 

कहानी 2: किसान और लकड़ी का गठ्ठर

एक गाँव में एक किसान रहता था। उसके चार पुत्र थे। किसान अपने चारों बेटों के बर्ताव से बहुत परेशान था क्योंकि वे चारों हमेशा लड़ते-झगड़ते रहते थे। किसान ने उन्हें कई बार समझाने की कोशिश की लेकिन उन पर कोई असर नहीं हुआ।

एक दिन किसान बहत बीमार हो गया। वह इतना बीमार था कि उसके बचने की उम्मीद बहुत ही कम थी।उसने एक आखिरी बार अपने बेटों को समझाने की कोशिश की और उन चारों को अपने पास बुलवा लिया।उसने चारों को एक-एक लकड़ी दी और उसे तोड़ने के लिए कहा। चारों ने लकड़ी को बहुत ही आसानी से तोड़ दिया। फिर उसने एक मोटा-सा लकड़ी का गठ्ठर उन्हें तोड़ने के लिए दिया। चारों ने बारी-बारी से उस गठ्ठर को तोड़ने की कोशिश की लेकिन बहुत कोशिशों के बाद भी वे उसे नहीं तोड़ पाएँ। लाख कोशिशों के बाद भी जब वो उसे नहीं तोड़ पाएं तो किसान बोला, “अगर तुम भी इस लकड़ी के गठ्ठर के समान मिलकर रहोगे तो तुम्हें भी कभी कोई नुकसान नहीं पहुंचा पाएगा।”

अपने पिता की बात सुनकर चारों भाइयों को बहुत शर्मिंदगी हुई और उन्होंने अपनी गलतियों के लिए अपने पिता से माफ़ी मांगी। उन्होंने अपने पिता को विश्वास दिलवाया की आज के बाद वे चारों हमेशा साथ मिलकर रहेंगे। अपने बेटों की बात सुनकर वह बहुत खुश हुआ और अपने पुत्रों को साथ देखकर वह कुछ ही दिनों में ठीक हो गया और अपने बेटों के साथ ख़ुशी-ख़ुशी रहने लगा।
